Last updated: 29 September 2026 · Applies to the Cambr iOS app (beta) and cambr.uk
Cambr is a driving app that scores roads for driving quality and guides you along the best ones. To do that it needs your location, and it keeps a record of the drives and roads you choose to save. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to delete it.
The data controller is Cambr Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17371232), registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. Contact: hello@cambr.uk.
| Data | When | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account identifier — an anonymous account is created the first time you open the app. No name, email or password is needed. | First launch | So your saved roads, drives and settings belong to you and follow you if you later sign in. | Contract (providing the app) |
| Email address (optional) | If you sign in with a magic link | To keep your data across devices and reinstalls, and to send the sign-in link. | Contract |
| Precise location — while the app is open and, during an active drive with guidance, in the background | Only after you grant iOS location permission | Showing roads near you, turn-by-turn guidance, speed-limit and speed-camera warnings, recording a drive you choose to log. | Your consent (the iOS permission), which you can withdraw in Settings |
| Drive records — the GPS track, distance, duration and roads of a drive you log; an optional title, note, mood and photos | When you finish and save a drive | Your drive history, your profile stats, and — only if you set a drive to “Everyone” — the public feed. | Contract |
| Road captures — a point and a short (about 30–60 second) location trail when you tap “save this road” while driving, with your good/bad verdict | When you tap the capture button | Your saved roads, and improving road scores over time. | Contract / legitimate interests (improving the road data) |
| Home location (optional) — a place you set as home | If you set it in Settings | One-tap “Drive home”, and a privacy zone: any drive you share with everyone has the part of its track within about 300 m of your home removed before it is saved, so the public feed never shows where you live. Never shown to other users. | Contract |
| Saved routes — start, destination and the route line | When you save a planned route | So you can drive it later. | Contract |
| Garage — car make, model, year, colour, optional photos | If you add a car | Personalising your profile and drive log. | Contract |
| Reviews and ratings of roads, and feedback you send us | When you submit them | Community road scores and improving the app. | Contract / legitimate interests |
| Drive diagnostics — a technical log of navigation decisions kept on your phone | Only leaves your phone if you choose “Share drive diagnostics” or leave “Attach my drive log” switched on when you send us a report | Diagnosing navigation problems you report. | Consent (you share it) |
| Crash reports and TestFlight feedback | Beta builds via Apple TestFlight | Fixing crashes. | Legitimate interests |
We do not collect your contacts, advertising identifier, or any data for advertising. We do not sell data.
| Service | What it handles | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (database and sign-in) | Your account, email, saved roads, drives, routes, garage, reviews, feedback | Hosted on AWS in London (eu-west-2) |
| Mapbox (maps, search and directions) | Map tiles for your viewport, the places you search, route start and end points, and your position along a route while navigating. Mapbox’s own privacy policy applies to that data. | Mapbox, Inc. (US) — mapbox.com/legal/privacy |
| Resend (email delivery) | Your email address, to send the sign-in link | US/EU |
| Apple (TestFlight, during the beta) | Crash logs and any feedback you send through TestFlight | Apple’s privacy policy applies |
| Kit (waitlist email, website only) | The email address you enter on cambr.uk, and a referral code if you arrived from a printed link | Kit (US) — kit.com/privacy |
| Google Analytics (website only, and only if you agree) | Pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser, and the site or link that sent you | Google (US/EU) — policies.google.com/privacy |
Where data leaves the UK, it is covered by the provider’s standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Sections 1 to 3 describe the app. The website itself asks for nothing except the email address you choose to enter on the waitlist form, which goes to Kit. If you reached the site from a printed link carrying a referral code, that code is sent with it so we know which flyer worked.
If you agree on the banner, we also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and sources bring people here. We use it to understand the website, not to identify you: advertising storage is switched off, we do not run ads through it, and we do not sell or share the data for advertising.
Until you choose, Google Analytics runs without storing anything on your device. If you decline, it stays that way, and your choice is remembered in your browser so you are not asked again.
Opens the banner again. If nothing happens, analytics is not running in this browser.
Nothing, unless you choose it. A drive is private by default. If you set a drive’s visibility to “Everyone”, its title, distance, duration, roads, route overview and any note or photos appear in the public feed. Road reviews you post are shown with the road. You can delete a drive or review at any time.
For as long as you have an account. Deleting your account (Profile → Settings → Delete account) removes your account and every record linked to it — drives, saved roads, routes, garage, reviews, captures and feedback — immediately and permanently. Anonymous accounts that have never saved anything may be removed after 90 days of inactivity. Backups are retained for up to 30 days.
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or object to or restrict how we use it. Deletion is built into the app; for anything else email hello@cambr.uk and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
You can change or withdraw location access at any time in iOS Settings → Cambr → Location. Without it the app still shows the map and road scores, but cannot guide you or record drives. Background location is used only while a drive with guidance is active, so instructions keep coming if you switch apps or lock the phone.
Cambr is for drivers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Every record is tied to your account and protected by row-level access rules, so no other user can read or change your data. The app never contains server credentials.
We will update this page when the app’s data use changes and note the date at the top. Material changes during the beta will also be announced in the app.
